Lawn Fertilization & Weed Control in Aurora, CO | Ironwood Earthcare

Lawn Fertilization & Weed Control · CDA Licensed

Your lawn and your trees are fighting over the same water

Most lawn companies treat the grass and ignore the fifty-foot maple standing in it. We are an arborist company that also does lawns, which means the programme is built around what the trees on your property are already taking.

One company, one visit, one plan for the whole property. CDA licensed applications.

What is actually wrong with Front Range lawns

Four problems account for most of it, and throwing generic fertiliser at any of them wastes a season.

Thin, struggling turf under mature trees

This is a losing fight you can manage but not win outright. Tree roots take water and nitrogen first, and they are in the top few inches of soil where grass roots live. The fix is adjusting expectations and inputs, not dumping more product.

Alkaline, compacted clay

The same soil chemistry that causes iron chlorosis in trees limits what turf can absorb. Fertiliser that the soil will not release is money spread across a yard.

Weeds that come back every year

Most perennial broadleaf weeds are a timing problem, not a product problem. Applied in the wrong month, the right herbicide does very little.

Grubs and patchy dead spots

Irregular dead patches that lift like carpet mean something is eating the roots. That is a different problem from drought, and watering it harder makes it worse.

How the programme works

A season-long plan, not a truck that shows up and sprays whatever is in the tank.

1

We look at the lawn and the trees together

Canopy cover, root competition, irrigation coverage, soil condition and how much sun the turf actually gets. A lawn under a dense canopy needs a different plan from one in open sun.

2

You get the season mapped out in writing

What gets applied, roughly when, and what each application is for. Timing is most of the value in lawn care and it is the part generic programmes get wrong.

3

Applications are made on schedule, under licence

Pre-emergent before the weeds germinate, feeding when the turf can actually use it, targeted broadleaf control when it is effective. All under a Colorado Dept. of Agriculture licence.

4

We adjust as the season goes

A wet May and a dry August are different years. The plan moves with the weather rather than being set in January and followed regardless.

Five promises, in writing, on every job

Nearly every complaint people have about tree companies comes down to the same thing: something happened that the homeowner never agreed to. These five exist so that cannot happen here.

  • Know Before We CutA certified arborist walks your property and explains what is wrong before a saw comes off the truck.
  • Know Before You PayYou get a written quote. The number you approve is the number you pay.
  • No Unauthorized ExtrasNothing gets cut, treated or hauled that is not on the quote you approved.
  • Your Property Comes FirstRigging and drop zones planned around your roof, fence and beds — not around our schedule.
  • Cleanup Is Part of the JobChips hauled, limbs gone, lawn raked. It is not a line item and it is not extra.

What a lawn programme costs

Priced by the square footage actually being treated and how many visits the plan calls for. A property with heavy tree cover usually needs less turf product, not more.

What drives the price up

Lawn size. The number of applications in the plan. Existing weed pressure that needs catching up before maintenance can start. Grub treatment where there is active damage.

What brings it down

Booking the whole season rather than one-off visits. Combining lawn visits with tree work already scheduled. Starting with a pre-emergent in spring instead of chasing weeds all summer.

What is always free

Walking the property, the assessment of what the lawn is up against, and the written plan. Including being told that your problem is irrigation coverage and not fertiliser.

Why an arborist company does lawns at all

Because on most Denver metro properties the trees and the turf are one system, and treating them as two accounts is how people end up watering twice as much and getting worse results in both.

  • Tree roots and grass roots share the top few inches of soil — feeding one without accounting for the other is guesswork
  • Overwatering turf to compensate is a leading cause of root problems in mature trees
  • Deep watering for trees and frequent watering for turf are opposite instructions; the plan has to reconcile them
  • One company, one visit, one invoice for the whole property
  • All applications under a Colorado Dept. of Agriculture licence

Lawn care questions people ask first

Why is my grass so thin under my big tree?

Because the tree is winning the competition for water and nitrogen, and it will keep winning. Tree roots occupy the same top few inches of soil as turf roots and they are far better at extracting what is there. Heavy shade compounds it. The realistic answer is a shade-tolerant approach and adjusted expectations under the canopy, not more fertiliser.

When should weed control actually be applied in Colorado?

Timing matters more than the product, and pre-emergent has to go down before the weeds germinate in spring. Broadleaf weeds like dandelion respond far better in autumn than in the heat of midsummer, because the plant is moving resources down into the root. The right herbicide applied in the wrong month does very little, which is why one-off visits underperform a season plan.

Do you treat lawns and trees on the same visit?

Yes, and it is usually cheaper and better than using two companies. One arborist looks at the whole property, so the watering advice and the feeding plan do not contradict each other. It also means one visit, one schedule and one invoice instead of two trucks turning up in the same week with different instructions.

Is it safe for kids and pets?

Every application is made under a Colorado Department of Agriculture licence, and we will tell you the re-entry interval for whatever is used before we apply it. That interval varies by product, so anyone who gives you a blanket answer without naming the product is guessing. Tell us if you have pets, children or a vegetable garden and it shapes what we use and where.

Most lawn problems on a treed lot are not lawn problems. Twenty minutes with an arborist usually identifies the real one, and it costs nothing to find out.
