LAWN DISEASE DIAGNOSIS

When diagnosing a lawn disease, we use a triangle illustration to explain how several conditions may occur for us to determine an infection. The common lawn diseases occur in three factors: lawn fungus, which is the disease-causing organism.

Grass species are the susceptible host, and warm weather provides an environment for all these.

We treat the lawn disease and improve your lawn’s overall health so that we can solve your entire problem.

We are Denver’s Preferred Lawn Treatment Company

If you seek a proper lawn care company or services, be sure to call or contact us with all your lawn care and lawn fungus control needs. We have taken it upon ourselves to ensure that your lawn is at its best.

LAWN DISEASES IN DENVER

To get rid of most of these different lawn diseases, we advise keeping your lawn green. These are some of the lawn diseases we have seen in Denver:

Necrotic Ring Spot (NRS)

A fungal lawn disease that is present on most Colorado and Denver metro grounds. We have seen that the lawn fungus mostly appears two to three years after your lawn has been established, although it may not develop for a decade longer.

This particular fungal disease has doughnut-shaped patches of dead grass or turf. We have seen NRS as the most destructive disease of Kentucky bluegrass in Denver and Colorado.

PREVENTION AND TREATMENT

Prepare before seeding. Treat the ground before you attempt to found your yard. We also ensure that your ground is adequately drained as NRS is made worse by poor soil drainage.

Do not overwater. We advise against overwatering your lawn to prevent a lot of moisture which facilitates NRS.

Use of sulfur amendments. We encourage the use of sulfur amendments as they decrease the NRS damage.

Fungicide. We apply fungicide with the use of our professional equipment, which is safe and environmentally friendly.

We have seen some brown dead patches on some Colorado grounds. As a homeowner, you might mistake them for regular seasonal changes, but most times, they are winter mites.

Winter mites are primarily present all year round, but we only notice them when the weather is cold and snow. With the use of a magnifying glass, we can see and examine your lawn.

In spring, that is when they lay eggs in Denver and Colorado.

PREVENTION AND TREATMENT

Mites can barely survive in moist conditions. Watering your lawn during dry seasons helps control its numbers.

We advise water even in winter, not unless the temperatures are under 40 degrees or snow.

When watering, pay more attention to the parts of your lawn that dry out quickly and ensure there is constant moisture.

As a professional company, we also apply pesticides over the winter months to eradicate the winter mites.

Leaf Blight and Dollar Spot

Leaf blight disease, also known as Ascochyta, and Dollar Spot, known as fungus sclerotinia homoecarpa, have seen them be a common problem in Colorado and Denver.

Typically, leaf blight disease can appear throughout the growing season where the leaves turn brown, curl up and die, and we see it more often in the spring. We have seen these fungus diseases occur in late spring and summer and can also affect season grasses.

Signs And Symptoms Of The Disease

Affected grass leaves start dying from the tips down

Large areas of the green grass or turf lawn turn straw-colores

Display a yellow or brown patch and purple patch between the healthy and unhealthy parts of the grass plants.

CONTROL AND PREVENTION

Ensure your sprinkler heads are functioning correctly, as this is the standard method used in the Denver and Colorado areas.

We recommend watering twice a week. We use fungicides to inhibit the growth of the lawn fungus disease.

Caring for Your Lawn in Denver

Mowing

In Colorado, grass lawns should be mowed to a height of 21/2 inches in spring then allowed to grow to 3 or 31/2 inches as it gets warmer. We advise using a sharp blade as dull blades tear grass and leave the ends to dry out.

Fertilizers

We apply fertilizers for homeowners to allow the grass blades to grow with stronger roots from an early stage. If we fertilize around winter, then we do it once more around Memorial Day.

Aeration

We advise for aeration to be done as early as possible as waiting for long damages the grassroots. Aeration helps reduce unwanted thatch build-up and reduce the spread of fungi. We puncture the soil with small holes to let air, water, and nutrients absorb in the grassroots.
